Seems great to me….it is nicely balanced-all the vitamins and minerals and lower in energy but I would make a few minimal alterations…
1-at breakfast instead of the apple sauce try have a clean fruit as an alternative and if your nevertheless hungry incorporate an egg. I recognize your lacking on the protein a small
2-at lunch i would add some carbs possibly as an alternative of the yogurt…have a half pita (exact same amount of calories) w/ some unwanted fat cost-free turkey alongside w/ the salad and almonds
three-include the yogurt at snack and include some refreshing fruit to it (banana)
4-and at dinner absolutely add a bun to the boca burger (how considerably protein does the burger have in it? possibly add a slice of low excess fat American cheese to it to get in protein and calcium)
5-and as your snack rather of the yogurt or fruit I suggest obtaining in some wholesome body fat like peanut butter…possibly place peanut butter on some graham crackers w/ some fortified w/ vit. D orange juice

above all what you have is great-but now that I look closer you need to have much more excess fat and protein in your diet program..and more carbs! only getting oatmeal is not enough…you require a bare minimum of 5 servings a day…and the oatmeal is only 1 one/two servings…if you insert the graham crackers (about eight), the bun and half pita-you will insert up to five one/2 servings…which is considerably better!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cuisinart Vs. KitchenAid Mini Choppers, September 25, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cuisinart DLC-2A Mini-Prep Plus Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
When I starting searching for a mini-chopper I was surprised by the huge rating difference between the Cuisinart DLC2 and the KitchenAid KFC3100, so I bought both and did a side-by-side comparison. The only explanation I can give for the ratings difference is that Cuisinart buyers must have higher expectations. For most operations they have nearly identical performance and for some operations the Cuisinart is the clear winner.

Onions: Many Cuisinart reviewers panned its performance here, claiming it made onion purée, but most KitchenAid reviewers praised its onion chopping ability. I found almost no difference between the two. Maybe its an issue with the instructions - for chopped onions you must use a few short pulses. A few more pulses and you get minced onion - more than this and both give you onion puree. I wouldn't say either is great at chopping onions, but both are equally mediocre.

I also tested chopping nuts, and making breadcrumbs with similar results. Both performed about the same for a course chop, although the Cuisinart produced a more even chop on the nuts, but its when you want a really fine chop that the Cuisinart starts to shine. The first reason for this is the grind feature found only on the Cuisinart. This spins the blade in the opposite direction which allows the flat, back-side of the blade to impact the food. More importantly, it redistributes the food, so if you've got a couple of chunks that refuse to be chopped, a short pulse in the opposite direction helps it drop into the blade. For perfect, fine breadcrumbs I alternate between the normal chop mode for a few seconds, and grind for one second.

The other reason the Cuisinart gives a better fine chop is that it does a much better job of cycling the food through the blade. This is a real key when you're working with softer foods like spreads, pâtés or purees. When I made a cream cheese spread in both choppers the Cuisinart did a far quicker and better job of pulling the ingredients down the center and into the blade. The KitchenAid kept larger chunks bobbing on top. If you're making dips, spreads or baby food, the Cuisinart is the hands-down winner.

On the practical side, both choppers were equally easy to clean. Both have small holes in the lid for pouring in liquids on the fly, but only The KitchenAid has a slot for dry or thick ingredients - if that's important to you. Overall, I found the Cuisinart easier to use for several reasons. First, the Cuisinart blade drops on easily, while the KitchenAid blade is keyed and I found myself turning it several times before it dropped in. Second, the KitchenAid lid must be removed first before you can lift off the bowl, but on the Cuisinart, the bowl and lid can be detached as an assembly. Finally, the Cuisinart blade has a "handle" that extends to the top of the bowl like a popsicle stick allowing you to remove the blade without getting your fingers in the food.

After all my testing, I really can't understand the large ratings difference between these two. Neither is perfect - you'll never get a perfect, even, course chop with things like onions or chocolate, but they do come in handy. For many uses either one will give you pretty much the same results. Because of its advantage with softer foods and its ease of use, I recommend the Cuisinart.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love my MiniPrep, it's a great help!, November 28, 2005
By
Vyshtia (CA, USA) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
I got this as a gift from my boyfriend and have been using it regularly. This is one of those things that you don't think you ever need (and I did give this topic extensive thought), but once you have it, you would really miss it.

The good is that it is really good at FINELY chopping things.

The bad is that it is really good at FINELY chopping things.

Keeping this in mind, I've learnt when to use and when to just use my knife. For instance, when chopping walnuts for banana bread, I put a cup of walnuts into the processor and hit "Chop" - it immediately chopped the walnuts into good sized chunks, but there was a couple of walnuts that didn't get cut yet, so I hit the "Chop" button a couple more times, but that turned the rest of the walnuts to a very small almost "powder" consistency. I tried it again, with about the same results. I guess I could try putting in less walnuts at a time, but then that would defeat the purpose of "less work" since I'd have to put in a small amount, chop, dump out the first batch, repeat. It's much easier in this case to do a coarse chop with knife. Chopping Mushrooms in this device also was lacking, it kind of made a mushroom puree.

Where it shines though is in my daily meals where I'm making some kind of pan sauce. Just about all my pan sauces or pan meals start with butter/oil, then saute'ing some garlic and onions. I'll just peel a few cloves of garlic, coarse chop an onion, dump it all into the MiniPrep, and presto, it's done! When I'm ready to dump it into my pan, just remove the co, remove the blade and use a mini-silicone spatula to dump the contents directly into the pan. A quick rinse of the lid, blade, and work bowl, and the processor can be put away. That can't be any easier.

For larger meals and more ingredients, it's great to just coarsely chop your items, dump into the processor, let it do it's work, and then fill up your prep bowls with the different ingredients - making everything easier once you're cooking.

I find the "Chop" and "Grind" feature to be pretty much the same thing, just in opposite directions. The opposite direction thing is helpful to get the food to drop down to the blade. If you don't put too much in the processor, once the piece is chopped, it gets flung to the sides of the work bowl and sticks there, creating empty space for the unchopped foods to drop into the blade. Everything gets chopped evenly...it just gets chopped very finely too.

The entire unit is very easy to use and clean. The blades are extremely sharp, so be careful when washing those. The clear plastic work bowl does get a little scratched up and not so clear anymore after a bit of use...but then, it's a work bowl. The buttons are under a protective plastic, sealed - so no chance of anything getting under the buttons, just a quick wipe and it's clean!

Overall, the unit is small, solid, quiet, easy to use, and easy to clean. It's great for fine chops to puree, not so great for coarse chops/dice. Perfect size for meals for 2 people. For making larger meals you may want to look at the larger cup sized processors, or just make a couple of batches.

5.0 out of 5 stars so... you want a food processor?, July 14, 2002

This review is from: Cuisinart DLC-2A Mini-Prep Plus Food Processor, White (Kitchen)
I have the Mini-Prep and I have the big guy version, but I use the MP 10x as much. It does everything! Want chopped garlic? peel a couple heads, add 2-3T of olive oil and about a 1/4-1/2tsp. of salt. It keeps in a jar in the fridge and tastes a heck of a lot better than the store kind! Fresh herbs, nuts, peppers without burning hands...it's great! When I'm done, I just rinse it out. This is my favorite appliance after my blender, and if this made smoothies and margaritas, it would be my favorite!

How can I thin a homemade salad dressing?

by admin on January 30, 2013

Question by Jody: How can I thin a homemade salad dressing?
I made a homemade salad dressing (poppy seed) substituting greek yogurt for regular yogurt as a base. As a result it turned out too thick – not pourable. What can I use to thin the dressing without adding too many extra calories or fat?

Answer by Sandy K
add just a little milk to give you the Constancy that you need.

Question by I Like Stories: What is the salad dressing used on salads in the European Alps?
I was recently in the Bavarian Alps (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), all the restaurants we ate at had a similar salad dressing on their salads that was sort of like a ranch dressing, but not exactly. What is this dressing or how is it made?

Best answer:

Answer by Cister
And you did not ask….

Here are a few possibilities:

German salad dressing

This dressing is great when added to tomatoes, cucumbers, waxed beans, or Boston Bibb lettuce. The following recipe is made to serve 3-4 people.

3 small cans un-sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. granulated plain sugar
2 tsp fresh black pepper
salt to taste
the amount of vinegar can be adjusted, depending on how acidic one may like their dressings.
This is my favorite on the boston Bibb lettuce. On the other salads, the dressing should marinate the vegetables for a short while.

SALATSOSSE MIT JOGHURT
(Salad Dressing with Yogurt)

2 tablespoons lemon juice
180 grams yogurt
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon sunflower oil

Mix all ingredients and serve over salad. Refrigerate until use.

Bacon-vinegar dressing and dill

bacon slices, chopped
1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
1/2 cup white wine vinegar
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons coarse-grained mustard
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/4 cup chopped fresh dill

Sauté bacon in large skillet over medium heat until brown, about 3 minutes. Using slotted spoon, transfer bacon to paper towels. Discard all but 2 1/2 tablespoons drippings. Heat drippings in skillet over medium heat. Add onion; sauté 2 minutes. Whisk in next 6 ingredients. Simmer until mixture is reduced to 2/3 cup, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat.

This review is from: LunchBots Rounds Stainless Steel Leak Proof Food Containers Black, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
I'm a big fan of LunchBots. Since school started this year, we've had three of the original shape LunchBots boxes--two Pico (LunchBots Pico Stainless Steel Lunch Container) and one Duo (LunchBots Duo Stainless Steel Lunch Box/Food Container)--that rotate daily through my first grader's packed snacks and lunches. We've gotten some dents in the boxes, but nothing that impacts performance.

Six months into the academic year, I'm supplementing the lunch equipment I picked out in August. We use the aforementioned LunchBots boxes and a Laptop Lunch Bento Set 2.0, Blue and Lime for the bulk of the meals, plus insulated food jars (Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Food Jar & New Thermos Nissan Jcg300p6 Stainless Steel Food Jar 10 Oz Double Wall Vacuum Leak-Proof Lid) for soup, rice, etc. All of these work very well, but I never put the Thermos lids in the dishwasher for fear of ruining them by trapping water inside. (It's a risk for the stainless jar, too, but I've not yet ruined a bottle that way--only the lids!) I'm not rabidly anti-plastic for re-useable items, but I do prefer to use stainless steel where it is practical.

What I was missing was a way to send cold cereal for snack. I put my son's milk in one of these dishwasher-safe travel bottles (Humangear GoToob 3 Ounce (3 pack) Travel Bottle) and send cereal in an old plastic Rubbermaid dish with a screw-on lid. In case he doesn't finish every bite, I want a container that will hold in leftover milk without a huge mess, but be thoroughly dishwasher safe, unlike our Thermos jars. I will use the 16 oz LunchBots jar for this purpose now. It easily passed my fill-with-water-and-shake test (no drips), and the wider opening will be much easier for my son to eat from. (I won't fill it to the top with cereal. That would be too much for my first grader.)

I like having jars in a variety of sizes so I can pack exactly the quantity of food I prefer, so having these come in a set works for me. I purchased the Kids Konserve small (5 oz Kids Konserve KK075 Small Leak Proof Stainless Steel Food Containers, Set of 2) containers on the same day I bought these. Both LunchBots jars are simply too large for foods like applesauce or an appropriate dessert portion for a kid. I also wanted to compare the two brands' lids as they've taken a different approach to water-tight seals. I'm very pleased with my Kids Konserve Stainless Steel Mini Food Containers, Set of 3 dishes for holding a hard-boiled egg or a serving of peas, but they are not water-tight, giving me no clue as to which seal design would work best for us.

For those who are interested, the four dishes I've just compared hold the following amounts of measured water, from smallest to largest:
1/4 cup to the ridge where the lid fits on the outside - Kids Konserve Stainless Steel Mini Food Containers, Set of 3
2/3 cup to the top, which squishes some water out! - Kids Konserve KK075 Small Leak Proof Stainless Steel Food Containers, Set of 2
1 cup to where the top narrows for the screw-on lid - LunchBots Rounds 8 ounce
2 cups to where the top narrows for the screw-on lid - LunchBots Rounds 16 ounce

As it turns out, my child can't easily open EITHER container--not the Kids Konserve pop-off plastic and not the LunchBots screw-off cap. Using my handy-dandy rubber band trick (put one rubber band each around the lid and the body of the dish), he did succeed in opening the LunchBots jar, so I guess these containers win as far as opening is concerned. On the other hand, for my own desire of a milk-free lunchbox at the end of the... Read more

The containers do appear to be leak-proof, at least for the short time I tested them. They seem sturdy enough to stand up to abuse.

It's hard to tell from the product image, but the lids are screwed on. I wish the threads were a little deeper or more widely spaced on the bigger jar, as it is tough to feel when they are lined up and it doesn't always want to screw on straight.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Silicone seals can fall off..., February 21, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: LunchBots Rounds Stainless Steel Leak Proof Food Containers Black, Set of 2 (Kitchen)
I own several lunchbot containers (the uno and the eco). I saw these are leak-proof so I bought 2 sets of these. While the smaller containers work great, I've had issues with the silicone seals in the larger containers. They keep popping off and falling *into* the food! They would fall off everytime I would turn the lid over and try to screw the top on. I've even tried placing them on top of the rim and slowing screwing the lid on but that doesn't work as well.
If you're having this issue, I would suggest you try for either a replacement or a refund. Otherwise if it's working great for you - that's great. But unfortunately it was not in my case. Otherwise, it's still highly recommended.

My family and I use this dry mix to make dressing for salads, chicken tenders and a host of other dishes. Around where I live, a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing is about 1.50, sometimes more depending on what store you go in and how desperately you need it. This is the best deal I have found to buy this product in bulk. This mix is good for a host of things, including fresh roasted potatoes. Just wash and cut potatoes any way you like, put in a bag with a little vegetable or olive oil and as much of the dry mix for flavor as you like, toss, put into a glass dish or on a pan. Put into 350-375 degree oven and cook until done. You have a simple side to go with dinner. Onions are also a good addition to this dish.

I will continue to buy this product from Amazon.com as long as they offer it. Now, if I could only find my favorite chili mix...

I buy this pack of 24 and keep it in the pantry. Since I've discovered this, we buy alot more sour cream! We use it for veggies, chips, on baked potatoes - even Mexican dishes. I highly recommend this!

I don’t like the salad dressing that will come with the salad from Costco, so I use the Yoplait yogurt as salad dressing. It tastes fantastic I feel but others believe it’s horrible.

Is this strange?

No, it really is good. I make a excellent salad dressing with some ordinary yogurt, cilantro, cumin, lime juice, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Just incorporate ample cream to get it thinned down to a dressing consistency…it really is delicious especially on salads with a little chicken.

Take a packet of this Knorr Dill & Herbs Salad Dressing, mix it up with water and oil per the directions, slice up very thin a large cucumber (I like the English seedless ones), add sliced cuke to the dressing, stir well, chill, serve 4-6 servings later. You don't even have to add vinegar or lemon juice, just oil and water. How easy is that?
