These are cute & worked well for a few hours to hold cold pasta salads & desserts for a large party (200+ people); but there are a couple of bad flaws.

#1. The air intake valve is too small for a traditional blower/inflator. We have one of those camper-friendly kinds, with the big, rapid flow attachment for air mattresses & the smaller, narrower tube for filling smaller inflatable toys. However, even the small one was too big for the valve/stem part of this. We had to blow 3 of these up by mouth, and you have to bite the stem while you're blowing to keep the pathway open. Not a good design for the old & uncoordinated amongst us.

#2. They don't hold air for very long (and no, they weren't overinflated or kept in the sun). We blew them up at 11:30; and by 3:30, all of them were well over halfway deflated. I couldn't see air bubbles coming up in the ice water, so I think the problem must be with the outside seams.

#3. They hold A LOT of ice. Which would probably be great if they stayed inflated. However, they don't have a drain plug on the bottom, so we had to carry them out of the building filled with cold water when they were probably 75% - 80% deflated after the party. Had they stayed inflated, this maybe wouldn't have been a problem; but as it were, water sloshed all over the place & made a huge mess in our rental pavilion.

Honestly, I don't think I'd buy these online again. I would look for some at your nearest party supply store, and check the air valve to make sure it's compatible with your blower. But save your receipt just in case you have the same problems we did.

Or, if you are blinded by the cuteness of these (like I was) & order them from here, take advantage of Amazon's generous return policy if they don't work out.

I got this tub because I seen one one else had one a while ago. It is convenient when you re having a outdoor party. My daughters birthday is coming up so I wanted to get it for h party. This way I can make food and put the food and ice in the inflatable tube o that it keeps it cool and I don't have to worry about having nastey food that spoiled from the heat.

The REAL mac salad from Hawaiian Times is a true secret and a highly famous one with the local yokels and afar. I will provide you with some hawaiian mac recipes I have found. I think I’m going to have to try some out as well. I’m always looking for ways to change it up.

EDIT: I threw in a hawaiian pasta salad recipe that sounds absolutely delicious. Thought maybe you’d like to give it a try.

I bought two of these for a Luau that I had at my home, they worked well. Luckily I had a balloon inflator to blow them up with because there was no way I could have blown them both up by mouth. Some sort of inflator should be suggested when purchasing.

She would come up with double the size of the salad, should she were not such a wasteful cook.

TheCasandra219 February 5, 2013 at 1:55 pm

Very wasteful.

praxis321 February 5, 2013 at 2:09 pm

I agree with you with the list of ingridients. In addition I would cook the pineapple for a bit otherwise after a few minutes the consistency of the yogurt will be watery and you would end up with a soup instead of a salad. This happened to me before when I was trying to make a pineapple yogurt… :)

trident3b February 5, 2013 at 2:24 pm

interesting. In Europe they never seem to mix sweets or “candies” with fruit or anything else for that matter. I shall try it but have my fears….

galfeh February 5, 2013 at 3:09 pm

Ok, so use fresh pineapple, non-sweetened coconut, skip the marshmallows and use non-fat plain yogurt…it would be ok.

solmazArman February 5, 2013 at 3:49 pm

Healthy :”))

MsSunhappy February 5, 2013 at 4:38 pm

yeah, as the others say it is very wasteful and unhealthy. however, i do think as a snack or dessert this is quite good. less mellow ad more apple.

TruAbby February 5, 2013 at 5:10 pm

am sorry to say this is sooo unhealthy ~
